Is our experience not good enough?
I stumbled across a video that I just had to share with you in hopes that some dialogue could begin, and perhaps I, too, can share in the wealth that these two teachers were able to gain national attention on…

To recap, two teachers (also husband and wife) took the challenge of managing to eat on $30 each for an entire month. They both purchased items, I recall hearing them purchasing staple items that went a long way for less. One specific item mentioned was Tang to supplement orange juice; one remarked that “it was disgusting”. They lost weight, the male losing a total of fourteen pounds; however they both were very fatigued, irritable, and stressed.
Of course this epiphany will most certainly gain them more National attention as they plan to write a ‘book’ among other things, I am sure, to become wealthy at the expense of behavior models that exist in many minority and impoverished communities. Why does it only take the true grit of owning the experience by mainstream America, for someone to realize what community advocates (such as myself) are taxing themselves physically, and emotionally to change that same cause, that by the way, has made millions of dollars for institutions that manufacture said products that are filled with artery-clogging, cancer-causing, cellular-mutating foodstuffs. Not to mention the medical and pharmaceutical industries that mass produce technology and synthetic solutions to mask the symptoms of being poisoned (quite literally).
Our bodies are full of parasitic behaviors that manifest themselves within our bodies. Improper knowledge, which can be claimed by the majority of every citizen, regardless of world nationality, is the very essence of our demise. We learn what we want to learn, we do what we want to do, we see what we want to see. Ultimately, we are what we want to be (in some instances). There is, and never will be, a one size to fit all! Please, let us stop signifying that it is so.
What has to happen is a multitude of steps. Small steps will in time create big steps that will lead to certain change and improved health outcomes. The problem that we face is we see this huge picture of doom in front of us, and make either two decisions: 1) it will not result fast enough, so what is the point, or 2) not enough resources, so what is the point? These decisions are our rationale based on societal conditioning, although we will grace the emergency room or the doctor’s office with the chest pains, the arthritic limbs, and the chronic headache. What is the point?
Please know that medical science has a significant place in our lives, but should not be misconstrued as the only solution. Medicine is to compliment what we should be doing for ourselves, however it has become the catalyst of how we care for ourselves.
I welcome thoughts and ideas on how more people, particularly those that do not subscribe to these conversations can be enlightened. We work tireless in communities that have been literally ’sold off’ for generations. It is our intent to breathe new life into people that haven’t been told the truth. We can show them how to (re)energize with what they have (what little that may be). We can add years to their lives with the right leadership, drive, and determination. Pray for us.

Most poor people do manage well off 30.00 per month for food, becasuse they know how to use community resources to strech those dollars. Most of us who are poor would have purchase meat and milk with the money used the food pantries and churches for can fruits and vegetables. Too bad those teachers did not know their community resources.

What a great point! Thanks for sharing. I suppose the real difference in the teachers and those that routinely have limited resources for food is; the teachers can go back to their regular budget of $$$ for food, so their experience really isn’t ‘real’, it’s temporal, and as they put it ‘experimental’.
